The Oscars.....the good the bad and the damn ugly!

Got a few spare hours to relax now my deadline has been met....so lets take a look at what went on last night at the Oscars

So everyone knows England kicked ass in the awards department...woohoo! Go us! To be honest we were expecting it, but still a nice achievement for British film and film stars, brought a tear to my eye!

Apparently there have been comments made on the presenters of the night, Anne Hathaway and James Franco, for a number of embarrassing moments through out the night....is it just me or was Hathaway acting like a child that's had too much sugar :S cringe. I suppose if your offered the job of presenting the Oscars, you're not gonna turn it down, but I thought they were so unmatched as a pair, they were on opposite ends of the scale...she looked like an excited puppy and he looked like he didn't want to be there....

I guess it wouldn't be interesting if there weren't a few hiccups...

Cate Blanchett reacted to The Wolfman clip for best makeup by saying “That’s gross.” It won.

Melissa Leo saying the F word in her speech....dun dun derrr first time ever in Oscar history apparently. oops!

Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis tired to add some humour to the show, which fell on deaf ears....with Timberlake suggesting he was the mysterious Banksy and Kunis not having a clue what he was talking about...*sigh* rehearse your jokes guys

Even celebrities make mistake- we're all human

Anyway now the interesting bit...the dresses

I'm disappointed, there was nothing that I would die for, a few very nice pieces but a lot of disasters in my opinion, a shame really, however lets not dwell on the mistakes, and instead focus on some of the good bits...(we can look at a few 'What the HELLS!?')

Scarlett Johansson Dolce & Gabbana
Oh dear. What was she thinking?? I quite like the colour, but it reminds me of some curtains...she could possibly get away with it if there wasn't that awful see through bit at the top, revealing what looks like a silky 'granny' style bra...it could be great, but it's not.

Anne Hathaway Valentino
She did well with the dresses, at first I wasn't keen on the puffy bustle style shape on the back, but when you see the dress at different angles...it works. Red can be risky, as it ends up clashing with the carpet, but again she pulls it off well, great figure and it really suits the style.

Mila Kunis Elie Saab Couture
Possibly my favourite of the night. Gorgeous. It is a haute couture piece, so you would expect perfection. The colour is lovely, it's nice to see a change from the typical black and reds. The delicate details and lace really make this design elegant and sexy, and the draping is superb. I do love it. A* for you Mila!

Gwyneth Paltrow Calvin Klein
Do not like. It's metallic. Pretty shapeless and just blaaa. There's something about this cut I just don't get, maybe it's her figure that doesn't suit it, or it could just be that fabric....why metallic? It looks like futuristic gone wrong. Gwyneth pulls off the short short skirts and mega high heels, she should have stuck with that...why cover up those legs!

Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang
I like this classic look, again the red is risky but the fact she's kept it plain without massive bling jewelry, I think she looks stunning. The whole look, red lips, messy up do and minimal accessories. Lets the dress do all the talking, great for her silhouette.

Amy Adams in  L'wren Scott
I love this style. It's nice to see a design that isn't just trying to show as much flesh as possible. She looks elegant and beautiful. Perfect figure, which is great as that dress clings to everything, it fits like a glove! I get the feeling the minimal designs are really taking over, this is a perfect example of the fabric taking a dress from just something nice to something amazing.

Natalie Portman in Rodarte
Aww doesn't she look great for someone about to drop a baby! I'm not sure how far gone she is but I don't blame her for swapping to comfortable flat shoes halfway through the night! There were last minute problems with her original Galliano dress, something about the fact he was arrested (we won't go into that in this post...) so instead she went for this beautiful gown designed by her Black Swan costume designers. It's nice that she hasn't gone for a stupidly tight dress that emphasises shes pregnant, it looks comfy and stunning, you can't get better than that! The subtle crystal detail round the shoulders is just enough glam without making it tacky. Oscar well desearved kid!

Cate Blanchett in Givenchy
I wouldn't usually like something like this, but on Cate I think it suits her image. I don't know if I would of had that bare circle of gathering on the front of the bodice, would of looked nice with the jewel and pearl detail continued in some sort of pattern. The sleeves are interesting, I like it, it's different.

Halle Berry in Marchesa, collection designed by Georgina Chapman
Beautiful. Well she is stunning and can kinda get away with anything! (jealous) Not everyone could pull this style off, it's a bit OTT but the colour is brilliant against her skin tone, it's covered in crystals that really give it that wow factor. The only thing I'm not sure about is the shiny organza skirt details, anymore and it would of been a little bit 'gypsy wedding' but altogether it just about works. Nice work.

Hilary Swank in Gucci
Black Swan inspired, feather dress. Not for everyone, but the colours unusual and I do like how the skirt flares out and lays perfectly as she walks. Awesome fabric. Very classy with a twist of crazy. Like.

There we go another year done, all in all...not a bad show.
